Tues August 29th - On a beautiful night at Tinley Park's Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre, Disturbed brought their Take Back Your Life Tour, with special guest Breaking Benjamin and Jinjer to help with the destruction. The amphitheater, one of the largest music venues in the Chicagoland area, can accommodate up to 28,000 people, with 11,000 reserved seats and 17,000 lawn seats, which was pretty much full to capacity tonight.

Enter Jinjer. Definitely not a newcomer to the Metal/Metalcore scene. In 2009, Jinjer considered this it’s official start, when Tatiana Shmayluk joined. Releasing their first EP Inhale, Do Not Breathe in 2012. Thus began the birth of Jinjer. The Ukrainian band began relentlessly touring on their own dime to push the new EP. With multiple European and world tours under their belt, supporting great acts like Arch Enemy and Cradle of Filth, Jinjer has been a force to be reckoned with. In March 2022 the band took a “pause” due to the conflicts with Russia and the Ukraine. In June 2022 the band was given permission to leave the Ukraine and tour as ambassadors of the country. Fast forward to today. Jinjer took the stage and opened with “Perennial” from their 2019 album "Micro", and the crowd erupted. Tatiana is definitely in the top tier of female metal singers, she has a was of destroying you with her brutal lows, and then can sooth it with her beautiful cleans. It’s like, I just obliterated you, but here’s some milk and cookies to make it better. The general admission pit was I alive and well with mosh pits for most of the 6 song set. Songs in this set included "Call me a Symbol," "Vortex," "I Speak Astronomy," "Copycat," and "As I Boil Ice". When you pick an opener for a tour, this is the one to take. They are there to warm up the crowd, and Jinjer does that in so many ways. September 7th restarts Jinjer’s headliner tour with Monuments and Until I Wake. If you didn’t catch them tonight, you definitely need to see them on one of the upcoming tour dates.
Veteran rockers Breaking Benjamin took the stage next. With a band that’s been
around since 1998, the guys know how to hit the stage and take control of the crowd. Opening the set with "Failure", off their 2015 album “Dark Before Dawn”. The crowd made their presence known, and started to immediately sing along. Next up was "Breathe", which has been one of their classic songs for the last 16 years. This set was filled with songs from across the catalog, fans young and old sang along with the band for the entire set. The fans helped really belt out the last song on the set, "Diary of Jane", which definitely capped off an amazing set by Breaking Benjamin. The set included Until the "End," "Red Cold River," "Polyamorous," "Blow Me Away," "Simple Design," "Follow," "Sooner or Later," "So Cold," "Dance With the Devil," "I Will Not Bow." With word from the band back in July of a possibility of a new album coming out within the next year, it’s definitely going to be an exciting time for Breaking Benjamin fans. It’s been 5 years, and the fans are hungry for new music.
With this being a hometown show for the guys from Disturbed, why wouldn’t you give them a key to the city of Tinley Park? Earlier in the day Mayor Colleen Sullivan presented the band with the key to the city for their accomplishments. Though the band hails from Chicago, Tinley has been used for the summer tour stops in the area. Now most have ether seen video or heard on the internet, Disturbed was bringing one hell of an elaborate pyro show with them on tour. Apparently, it has already set of sprinkler systems on a couple prior shows before this stop. So we definitely had to get out here and see what it was about. Disturbed took the stage right at dark, fans were amped up and ready to go crazy with the old school metal band. As the big white curtain dropped, Disturbed hit the stage and opened up with "Hey You," from the bands 2022 album "Divisive". The fans where so pumped for the opening number, which didn’t waste anytime giving them the pyrotechnics. "Stupify" was next on the setlist, and the crowd immediately exploded with cheers of excitement. The wall of flames backing the band was intense, as it articulated and revolved. Midway through the set after "A Reason to Fight," which is Disturbed’s acoustic ballad about addiction and depression, that hits home with a lot of people, Lead singer David Draiman broke down into tears, telling a story of friends he’s lost to these demons, friends such as Chris Cornell (Soundgarden), Scott Wylan (Stone Temple Pilots), and Chester Bennington (Linkin Park). Draiman went on tell a story of his own, that he was battling his own demons a few months ago, and would have joined these great singers, but he praised he praised his family, band mates, and the fans for giving him a reason to fight back against his demons. Please remember your not alone in this battle, stand tall, fight back, and overcome your inner demons. A brief pause, and Disturbed took the stage again, and the band finished off the last half of the set with great songs like "Land of Confusion," "Indestructible," "Sound of Silence," and finally finishing off their set with a 3 song encore. The encore included the songs "Unstoppable," "Down with the Sickness," and "Inside the Fire." 16 out of the 20 songs on this setlist included some kind of pyrotechnics and definitely one of the most elaborate light shows we’ve seen this year. The tour definitely lived up to the hype, and if you missed out, I definitely feel sorry for you.
